Textile Design Students Recognized in Prestigious Industry Contest

The International Textile Alliance’s Virginia Jackson Design Competition honors the best in the field.

The work of Jefferson textile design students (l-r) Olivia Connor, Skylar Strouss and Ryan Egan earned first place in the dobby, jacquard and print categories, respectively.

Jefferson textile design students swept the top awards at the International Textile Alliance’s Virginia Jackson Design Competition. Established in 1995, the contest recognizes the most talented students in the textile design field and serves as a vehicle to bring new talent into the industry.

Organizers prompted participants to create beautiful, innovative textiles for residential interiors in print, jacquard and dobby categories. Jefferson students have regularly placed in the prestigious industry competition since its inception.

“The textile design programs celebrate the achievements of our incredible students,” says Becky Flax, BS in textile design interim program director. “These wins are a tribute to their hard work, the outstanding faculty support and the University’s focus on preparing students for the textile industry. Congrats to all the winners and the students who participated in continuing a legacy of excellence.”

The Jefferson winners include:

  • Ryan Egan—first place in print
  • Skylar Strouss—first place in jacquard
  • Gabriele Harper—second place in print
