Jefferson College of Nursing Dean Dr. Marie Ann Marino Elected to Board of Directors of American Academy of Nursing

Marie Ann Marino, EdD, RN, FAAN

PHILADELPHIA — Marie Ann Marino, EdD, RN, FAAN, Dean and Professor of the Jefferson College of Nursing, has been elected to the American Academy of Nursing Board of Directors. She also serves as Vice President for Nursing Academic Partnerships and Innovation at Jefferson Health. An American Academy of Nursing Fellow since 2019, Dr. Marino has advanced nursing education, workforce development and innovative care models that expand access and equity in health care.

The Academy is an honorific society and a federally focused policy organization. Academy Fellows are inducted into the organization for their extraordinary contributions to improving health locally and globally. Fellows hold influential roles in health care as leaders in policy, research, practice, administration and academia. As a policy organization, the Academy uses the expertise of its Fellows to generate sound policy solutions to the most complex issues facing health and care delivery to achieve the organization’s vision of healthy lives for all people.

A former Navy Reserve Nurse Corps Officer, Dr. Marino is a nationally recognized advocate for military veterans entering the nursing profession. She has secured over $15 million in grants and scholarships, led pioneering nurse-led initiatives to improve senior health, and maintained decades of clinical practice as a pediatric nurse practitioner and forensic medical examiner. Her election to the Academy’s Board of Directors reflects her longstanding commitment to advancing nursing leadership, research and policy.

Dr. Marino and the other elected Fellows will assume their new roles in the Academy’s leadership at the organization’s annual Health Policy Conference on Oct. 16-18, 2025, in Washington, D.C. “I am deeply honored to be elected to the American Academy of Nursing’s Board of Directors,” Dr. Marino says. “As health care undergoes rapid transformation, I welcome the opportunity to contribute to meaningful dialogue and decisive action that will strengthen nursing’s influence on policy and improve outcomes for patients and communities.
