Meet Our Alumni: Katie Henes

Katie is a 2025 graduate from the BS in Interior Design program.

Where are you from originally?

Bucks County, Doylestown.

Why did you choose Jefferson?

I chose Jefferson because I was excited about the study abroad opportunities and the chance to experience design from a global perspective. Another thing that stood out was the smaller teacher-to-student ratio. I liked knowing I’d be in an environment where professors actually know your name and you can build real relationships with them.

What was the best part of your studies?

The best part of my studies has been getting to collaborate with people from different majors. I’ve learned so much from working on projects with students who bring completely different perspectives, whether they’re in architecture, landscape architecture, or any other major outside of CABE. Being part of the CABE community has made that even more rewarding. It’s such a supportive and creative environment where everyone pushes each other to grow.

What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?

Something people are usually surprised to find out about me is how much I love music. I play both the drums and the harmonica.

Katie Henes Photography Exhibit

Hene's recent photography work focuses on people and community in the Sharswood neighborhood.

I collaborated closely with the Sharswood neighborhood alongside Andrew Hart to create a series of photographs aimed at getting local residents excited and engaged. In each photograph, I aimed to evoke a glimpse of who each person truly is going beyond just the surface of their portrait. The inspiration behind this project was to challenge the idea that a portrait defines someone entirely, highlighting instead the deeper, more complex identities behind each face. This concept guided the way I captured the diverse and vibrant community members, celebrating the spirit and energy of Sharswood through authentic, people-centered imagery.
