Androniki is currently in the Accelerated Dual MS in Sustainable Design and MS in Construction Management program.
Where are you from originally?
I am from Athens, Greece.
Why did you choose Jefferson?
My goal was to pivot careers and get into the building environment as fast as possible, and Jefferson offered a unique opportunity to combine disciplines efficiently by providing the accelerated dual degree program that would allow me to feed two birds with one stone within two years. Where other universities offered three-year programs for students who had no prior experience in architecture/design/construction, Jefferson made the difference and demonstrated that it can offer the interdisciplinary training and hands-on experience I need to bridge my existing skills with my future aspirations much faster. Additionally, Jefferson’s small class sizes provide a tailored experience that enhances learning and fosters great connection with professors and classmates, which is a big plus.
What is the best part of your studies?
The best part of my studies is the combination of creativity, sustainability and technical proficiency that my program is offering. I am learning not only how to design sustainable buildings, but also how to effectively and efficiently manage their construction, which will make me able to own my projects in the future from conception to completion.
Tell us about a project you’re working on or award/honor you’ve recently received:
A project I am currently working on is the redesign of the East Falls River Landing and the surrounding area. In this project, my team and I are engaging in a realistic and comprehensive design process that includes initial holistic research on the area, site inventory and analysis, design charrettes, feedback from residents, implementation of design requirements and final design proposals.
Throughout the process, we are considering the real current opportunities and challenges of the area, while focusing on sustainability, landscape ecology, adaptability and resilience. It is a very stimulating project that deepens our understanding of large-scale design practice.
What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?
I have lived in four different countries, in three different continents.
