Biography

Yong Chen, Ph.D., is an epidemiologist and health services researcher with extensive experience in pharmacoepidemiology and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR). He has deep understanding of real-world databases including claims data, electronic medical records, registries, and publicly available databases. He conducts observational studies to support real-world evidence generation using various data sources. He also provides expert consultation on real-world evidence strategies during pre- and post-launch of medical products.

As a Sr. Director in Real World Data and Analytics for Pfizer’s Patient Health & Impact organization, Yong is responsible for developing real-world data strategies for rare diseases. Prior to joining Pfizer, he was a Director of Real World Data and Analytics at GSK supporting real-world evidence generation for different functional departments. Prior to that, he was a Senior Scientist and then Associate Principal Scientist of Epidemiology at Merck responsible for conducting observational studies in response to regulatory requests and he was also a lead epidemiologist for one diabetes product. In his early career, he held a Senior Analyst position at HealthCore conducting HEOR studies for industry clients. Finally, Yong has been an adjunct faculty at the Jefferson College of Population Health since 2015.

Yong’s work has been published in leading medical, epidemiological, medical informatics and managed care journals such as JAMA Internal Medicine, Journal of Clinical Epidemiology, American Journal of Epidemiology, Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, American Journal of Manager Care, Methods of Information in Medicine etc. He holds a PhD in Clinical and Population Health Research from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, a master degree in Health Finance and Management from the Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor degree in Clinical Medicine from the Shanghai Second Medical University.
