Clinical Sites
Choosing Health: Adolescents Reaching Their Goals Through Empowerment (CHARGE) Clinic
CHARGE is an outpatient psychiatry clinic focusing on the prevention of substance use disorders and the treatment of co-occurring substance and psychiatric disorders in adolescents and young adults (up to age 25). Addiction and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Fellows work with the patient, family members, and schools to provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and treatment. It is located at the department’s main office at 33 South 9th Street.
Jefferson Addiction Multidisciplinary Service (JAMS)
JAMS provides inpatient addiction consult services to patients admitted at Jefferson Health. The service helps manage complex intoxication and withdrawal syndromes in patients who are acutely medically ill. Our fellows not only learn how to safely and effectively manage these difficult cases, but they also aid in developing discharge plans and ensuring patients are referred to an appropriate level of care.
Jefferson Outpatient Addiction Psychiatry Service (JOAPS)
JOAPS is an outpatient psychiatry clinic serving patients with co-occurring substance use disorders, behavioral addictions, and psychiatric disorders (mood, anxiety, psychotic disorders). The clinic provides evidence-based treatments for opioid, alcohol, tobacco, stimulant, as well as cannabis use disorders. People from across the entire socio-economic spectrum are seen on this service, including those who are publicly and privately insured. JOAPS is located at the department’s main office at 33 South 9th Street.
Jefferson Pain Management Center
At the Jefferson Pain Management Center at the Navy Yard, addiction psychiatry fellows gain experience in the assessment and treatment of patients with complex chronic pain. Working alongside an interdisciplinary team, fellows participate in comprehensive care planning, observation of and assistance with interventional procedures. On this rotation, fellows also develop skills in managing co-occurring pain and substance use disorders within a high-volume outpatient setting.
Mazzoni Center
During the clinical rotation at Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia, addiction psychiatry fellows will work in an LGBTQ+-affirming setting that integrates mental health, substance use, and primary care services. Fellows will gain experience with harm-reduction approaches, evidence-based therapies, and medication-assisted treatment, while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to support a diverse and underserved patient population.
Northeast Treatment Centers (NeT)
While on the clinical rotation at NET Centers’ Integrated Community Wellness Center (ICWC), located on Columbus Boulevard, addiction psychiatry fellows gain experience in a collaborative, community-based setting that integrates behavioral health and physical health services.
As part of a pilot program in partnership with the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and Community Behavioral Health, at NeT fellows are exposed to evidence-based treatment for substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, while also participating in enhanced care coordination efforts, including same-day access, physical health screenings, peer support, and case management services. This rotation offers a valuable opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team and understand models of whole-person care.
Thomas Jefferson University Narcotic Addiction Rehabilitation Program (NARP)
NARP is an Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), certified by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) that offers medications for opioid use disorder (Methadone and Buprenorphine), individual and group psychotherapy interventions, assertive outreach and care management, and medical monitoring/medication management. NARP is one of the primary teaching sites for medical students, residents, and fellows, and is located at the corner of 21st Street and Avenue in South Philadelphia.
