The Department of Professional & Continuing Studies offers special programs for high school students who are exploring careers in science and the health professions.
SummerScience@Jefferson is a four-week summer program focused on exploring how science is used in everyday life. Students learn laboratory techniques such as cell culture, DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction, and they discover how these techniques are applied to criminal investigations, paternity testing, disease diagnosis and the development of new pharmaceutical products.
Faculty from the Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Jefferson College of Health Professions teach in the Program, introducing areas of study including cell biology, molecular biology, cellular pathology and the biology of disease.
To be eligible to apply, students must:
- Have completed at least two years of high school
- Be in good academic standing
- Demonstrate a sincere interest in biomedical sciences
