Clinical Experience

Clinical/Internship Practica

Clinical/Internship practica are the real-world training aspects of our programs. All Bachelor of Science and Master of Science students have up to four different MLSB program-specific placements in clinical and/or research laboratories at leading hospitals/clinics, and laboratories in and outside the tri-state area. Practica location(s) are program specific and may be completed at commercial laboratories, community hospital and medical center laboratories, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry labs, and academic research labs. Students are responsible for reliable transportation and housing.

Clinical/Internship Opportunities

Medical laboratory science, cytology, and biotechnology are practice-based professions that require extensive laboratory experience and hands-on training. We provide our students with a multitude of opportunities to use the latest high-tech equipment and analytical methods, master a range of laboratory techniques, and experience the routines and rhythms of life in the laboratory.

Students in the Medical Laboratory Sciences & Biotechnology department, based on student-specifc program requirements:

  • May have up to four different practicum experiences – three or four 8-hour days a week in the fall and spring, or five 8-hour days a week in the summer.
  • Have the opportunity to train at one of our clinical affiliations in the tri-state area, including major teaching hospitals, clinics, and laboratories.
  • Have priority clinical opportunities at Jefferson Health System institutions.
