Curriculum
This six-year (3+3) accelerated program allows students to complete undergraduate coursework in the natural and physical sciences, humanities, and social sciences to meet program prerequisites and general education hallmarks in three years. These courses provide a solid foundation in critical thinking, communication, and writing. Students meeting all program prerequisites and academic standards are guaranteed admission into the professional phase of the program. Students who do not meet these requirements will be eligible to complete a four-year BS in Exercise Science degree.

Year 4 - Doctor of Physical Therapy
Students enter the professional phase in their fourth year to begin the final three years (10 semesters) of the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
Students must meet the following criteria to matriculate into the DPT curriculum Professional Phase (Year 4):
- Completion of pre-professional courses within 3 consecutive years (minimum grades of “C” or higher)
- Minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA for all college coursework
- Minimum 3.0 GPA in DPT Program pre-requisite courses (Anatomy & Physiology I w/Lab*, 4 credits; Anatomy & Physiology II w/Lab*, 4 credits; General Biology I w/Lab, 4 credits; General Biology II w/Lab, 4 credits; General Chemistry I w/Lab, 4 credits; General Chemistry II w/Lab, 4 credits; Physics I w/Lab**, 4 credits; Physics II w/Lab**, 4 credits; Statistics***, 3 credits; Intro to Psychology, 3 credits; Writing Seminar I, 3 credit
- No less than C+ in any science pre-requisite course: Biology/L I and II, Anatomy and Physiology/L I and II, Chemistry/L I and II; Physics/L I and II. All science prerequisite course must be completed at Jefferson unless transfer credits have been approved during the admissions process. Courses approved for transfer must mean minimum grade requirements for the accelerated program.
- A total of 20 observation hours with a licensed Physical Therapist across two or more distinct areas of practice, preferably one outpatient and one inpatient, are required.
- Agree to Physical Therapy Performance Requirements and Technical Standards available from the DPT program.
Formal review of student’s academic progress will occur each year. Students who do not meet the DPT Program academic standards will change major to Exercise Science to complete the Bachelor of Science (requires a minimum of 120 credits)
