Letter from the Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. We are a three-year, ACGME-accredited program that is designed to provide high-level training for the next generation of leaders in clinical care, clinical and laboratory research, and education. Our program is fortunate to draw on resources from both the Department of Medical Oncology, part of the NCI-designated Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, and the Division of Hematology, part of the Department of Internal Medicine, to ensure that fellows receive a comprehensive educational experience. Each year, we welcome six fellows to train with our outstanding faculty who have world-class clinical and research expertise in the fields of solid tumor oncology, hematologic malignancies, classical hematology, and cellular therapy.

Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is located in the heart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and serves a diverse population of patients from a 7-county catchment area that includes urban, suburban, and rural locations. All required educational experiences occur at our in Center City Philadelphia facilities, but fellows may choose to rotate at affiliated sites in Northeast Philadelphia, Abington, or New Jersey, if this fits with their career goals.

In addition to providing comprehensive clinical training, our fellowship program also seeks to develop clinical and translational researchers through education, mentorship, and hands-on experience.  All fellows participate in scholarly activities and some do so as part of other post-doctoral degree programs such as the Master of Science programs in Clinical Pharmacology (Human Investigation Track) or Public Health.

The Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program affirms that fostering an inclusive environment is fundamental to our mission of improving the lives of cancer patients and their families through compassion, innovation, and breakthrough discoveries. We actively seek to recruit, mentor, and retain fellows who are representative of diverse identities and work to provide educational programs that promote cultural respect, reduce bias, and empower community advocacy.

Please take the time to visit the rest of our website, which describes the objectives of our program in more detail, the structure of our educational tracks, and the specifics of our curriculum. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us.

We look forward to hearing from you!
