Alzheimer's Virtual Interprofessional Training
What is AVIT?
In the AVIT (Alzheimer’s Virtual Interprofessional Training) program, teams of 4-5 students from different health professions learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, manage and support patients and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias, and collaborate as interprofessional teams to address the needs of patients and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
Objectives
- Identify causes and consequences of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias
- Discuss racial disparities in Alzheimer's and dementia diagnosis and care
- Apply team-based strategies to provide optimal, patient-centered care to persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias
- Apply team-based strategies to support caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias
- Reflect upon their ability to implement knowledge and skills related to caring for persons with dementia as members of an interprofessional team
Why use a virtual world for IPE?
- Allows for a safe environment for experiential learning.
- Provides an immersive, engaging learning environment that facilitates active application of core knowledge and skills.
- Enables community building among remote participants; does not require students to be in same physical location.
