Dean's Message

Welcome to the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce at Thomas Jefferson University. My name is Ron Kander, and I am the Executive Dean of Kanbar College, one of the most innovative and exciting Colleges in the region.

Thomas Jefferson University formed the Kanbar College of Design, Engineering and Commerce in November of 2010 by combining the School of Design and Engineering, and the School of Business. In doing so, we formed an exciting academic unit focused on teaching innovation, collaboration and leadership in the context of a student’s individual major. Since then, the Kanbar College’s DEC Curriculum has been lauded by industry professional and media outlets alike.

The Kanbar College produces graduates that have deep disciplinary training in one of the design, engineering or business fields combined with a deep appreciation and understanding of the power of interdisciplinary teams. You will graduate with the ability to collaborate and innovate in order to develop the next generation of products, processes and services to address global human needs.

From day one, you will be treated as a professional. Not only will you dive deeply into your particular major, you’ll also experience the DEC Curriculum, which combines all majors in the Kanbar College in courses modeling real industry collaboration.

Best of all, you’ll be learning, growing, and achieving in our contemporary 40,000 square-foot building in the center of campus, which houses light-filled studios and classrooms, prototyping spaces, and a range of collaborative workspaces for students and faculty. It is truly an amazing facility.

I hope you enjoy exploring our college. While your major here will help secure your first job, it is the creativity, critical thinking and problem solving inherent in the DEC Curriculum which will secure your career.
