Honoring a Visionary Leader: Dr. Alexis Skoufalos Concludes a Distinguished Career at Jefferson

After more than 20 years of distinguished service to Jefferson and the field of population health, Alexis Skoufalos, EdD, has announced her retirement, effective June 30.

Dr. Skoufalos joined Jefferson College of Population Health (JCPH) as Director of Education for the Department of Health Policy in 2005, where she led entrepreneurial initiatives and professional development programs. During her tenure, she successfully developed and implemented numerous impactful programs that advanced healthcare practice and education. Along the way, she built strong collegial relationships and partnerships with corporate and community partners, always bringing a smile, unmatched energy, and enthusiasm to her work.

Dr. Skoufalos later became the inaugural Program Director of the Doctor of Health Science (DHSc) in Population Health Leadership program, where she helped shape and expand its vision. She established a dynamic doctoral experience that integrates academic rigor, applied research, leadership development, and a vibrant community of practice for working healthcare professionals. Dr. Skoufalos reflects, “Our students and alumni are dedicated to making a difference in the community. It’s an enduring legacy that caps off my tenure at Jefferson. I couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments.”

Throughout her career, Dr. Skoufalos has been a champion for innovation in population health, professional development, quality improvement, and strategic partnerships. As noted by Dean Dr. Billy Oglesby, “Her commitment to mentoring students and advancing the field has left a lasting mark on both the program and the many graduates whose careers and organizations have benefited from her guidance.”

Dr. Skoufalos will be succeeded by Dr. Susan Aloi, who on July 1, 2026 will assume the role of Program Director. She previously served as Assistant Program Director and has been integral to the program’s growth and success. Through her work with students, faculty, and dissertation committees, she has fostered a supportive, high-touch learning environment. Her deep understanding of the program, commitment to student success, and passion for advancing healthcare leadership position her well to lead the program into its next phase.

Reflecting on this transition, Dr. Aloi shared: “True leadership is built on strong partnerships and the kind of visionary mentorship Dr. Skoufalos has so generously provided. I am deeply grateful for that guidance as I step into the role of Program Director for the DHSc in Population Health Leadership. The future of population health leadership is ours to shape, and I am excited to pursue that vision alongside such dedicated colleagues.”

Dean Oglesby added, “Students can expect the same personalized mentorship, collaborative learning environment, and focus on translating knowledge into real-world impact that have become hallmarks of the DHSc experience at Jefferson.” Building on a strong foundation established over the past decade, the program will continue to evolve in response to the changing healthcare landscape, expanding opportunities for innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and leadership development.

Under Dr. Aloi’s leadership, JCPH looks forward to further preparing graduates to address complex health challenges and improve outcomes for the populations and communities they serve.

We thank Dr. Skoufalos for building and growing this exceptional program and for her extraordinary commitment to JCPH over the years.
