Emma is a BS in Visual Communication Design alumna. Emma has a concentration in graphic design and is now a Junior Designer at Finch Brands. She also serves at the Vice President of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) in Philadelphia.
Where are you from originally?
Northeast Philadelphia.
What was the best part of your time at Jefferson?
The best part of my time at Jefferson was building relationships with my peers and program faculty. That community was invaluable during my time at Jefferson and has continued to be since graduation.
How did your experience in Jefferson’s Visual Communication Design program prepare you for your career?
The BS in Visual Communication Design program truly helped set me apart during the early stages of my career. Having a dedicated opportunity to develop my portfolio with the support of the Jefferson faculty ensured that when I graduated, I was ready to apply to jobs and seize every opportunity that came my way. The opportunities and cross-disciplinary connections that were possible because of being part of the Jefferson community have made me a well-rounded designer, able to contribute to my team from research to copywriting to final execution.
What are you doing now?
I’m working as a Junior Designer at Finch Brands, a brand consultancy that combines insights, strategies and design. I also currently serve as the Vice President of AIGA Philadelphia.
What’s something people would be surprised to find out about you?
I’ve played the guitar for over 10 years! I love having a non-visual creative outlet to really explore my creativity entirely disconnected from design.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give to our current students?
Really lean into the people around you during your time at Jefferson. Talk to your peers, upperclassmen and professors. Everyone is there to uplift you and make you a better designer, so take advantage of that community while you’re in it!
