Hospital Service

The Jefferson Family Medicine hospital service has operated continuously since the 1970s, admitting patients from our large practice and affiliate practices. Currently, the service admits approximately 1000 patients per year, for a wide variety of disease processes. Our hospital team is made up of an attending physician, who is relieved of all other responsibilities during the week of hospital work, two or three upper year residents, and family medicine interns, as well as interns from obstetrics and gynecology and anesthesia.

The JFMA service is a model within Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for efficient, compassionate care. Our focus on integrating the transition from inpatient to outpatient care results in excellent outcomes for our patients as measured in length of stay, readmission rates, and patient satisfaction. During the COVID-19 crisis, the family medicine team proudly provided care to a very large percentage of affected patients within Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
