Student & Alumni Awards

JCPH celebrates the successes of our students and alumni through our annual awards program. Award recipients are recognized each year at our End of Year Celebration. Below is more information about each award category. Please click the link at the bottom of the page to view past award recipients.  

Outstanding MPH Student Achievement Award

In recognition of graduating MPH students who exhibit exemplary student achievement, based on coursework, research, and character throughout the program.  Faculty vote via ballot, in cases of more than one nominee. Nominees are solicited via survey to faculty by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee.

Students who are eligible must be an MPH graduate from the LEAP, LPHT, Advanced Standing, and Dual Degree pathways. One student from each category is awarded an honorarium.

MPH Student Service Awards

In recognition of graduating MPH students who exhibit exemplary student service throughout the program. Service beyond the required 120 hours for the Clerkship-Applied Practice Experience is expected. Faculty vote via ballot, in cases with more than one nominee. Nominees are solicited via survey to faculty by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee.

Students who are eligible must be an MPH graduate from the LEAP, LPHT, and Dual Degree pathways. One student from each category is awarded an honorarium.

Outstanding MPH Clerkship-Applied Practice Experience Award

In recognition of graduating MPH students who completed an extraordinary number of Clerkship-Applied Practice Experience (C-APE) hours (above and beyond the requirement), based on submitted timesheets, and/or exemplary student achievement during the C-APE. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. 

Awardee must be an MPH graduate. The awardee receives an honorarium.

Outstanding MS Student Achievement Award

In recognition of current students in the MS degree programs who exhibit exemplary student achievement, based on coursework, service, research, and character throughout the program.  Up to three students will be awarded each year.  Program Directors nominate eligible students and the Director, Office of Academic Affairs reviews nominations and verifies eligibility. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. Recipients receive an honorarium. 

Doctoral Student Achievement Award

In recognition of current or graduating doctoral students who exhibit exemplary achievement in the areas of research productivity, scholarship, service, teaching, and awards/recognition. One recipient will be selected from each doctoral program. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. Recipients receive an honorarium.

Dissertation Research Excellence Award

The Outstanding Dissertation Award was established in 2020 by JCPH to recognize exceptional work by current and graduating doctoral students and to encourage the highest levels of research, scholarship, and writing. This award identifies excellent dissertation research and dissertations that can be used as exemplars for other doctoral students. One recipient will be selected from each doctoral program. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. Recipient receives an honorarium.

Public Health Alumni Achievement Award

This award recognizes contributions of a Public Health graduate in the areas of education, research, or community service that reflect favorably on Thomas Jefferson University as that person’s alma mater.  This award is offered to honor significant, long-term professional achievement. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. Eligible recipients will be a graduate from the MPH for a minimum of one year and will receive an honorarium. 

Alumni Achievement Award - MS & Doctoral Programs

This award recognizes contributions of a graduate from an MS or doctoral program in the areas of education, research or community service that reflect favorably on the Jefferson College of Population Health. This award is offered to honor significant, long-term professional achievement. Program Directors nominate eligible students and the Director, Office of Academic Affairs reviews nominations and verifies eligibility. Nominees are solicited by the Student and Alumni Affairs Committee. Eligible recipients will be a graduate from an online master's program for a minimum of one year and will receive an honorarium.
