Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Message from the Dean

This is an incredibly painful and challenging time. Unfortunately, it is a time when it seems the words “equity” and “justice” have lost their power, even as aspirations.  It is times such as these that we are called upon to redouble our efforts to help create a better society. Indeed, as faculty, staff and students, we have essential roles to play in shaping communities and cities that respond, swiftly and equitably, to all people’s needs and hopes. We have long pursued this mission; but we must never take it for granted and, therefore, we must always be expanding our energies.

The JCPH Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion (DEI) Workgroup was established to receive input from the JCPH community, develop action plans, and champion efforts aimed at increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in our college and in the university community.  I hope you join with us in this effort.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Workgroup

The mission of the DEI Workgroup is to consider recommendations for supporting an equitable, inclusive learning and employment environment that promotes respectful dialogue, critical thinking, and addressing challenges in order to engage and improve the quality of life and health of the diverse communities we serve. The workgroup is comprised of faculty, staff, and students who share this common vision and work to advance these goals at the College and in the broader University community.

Currently, the Workgroup is:

  • Working with program directors and faculty to identify relevant enhancements to our educational programs
  • Identifying strategies to continue to increase the diversity of faculty, staff, and students
  • Developing events and activities to celebrate diversity and promote equity and inclusion
