Medical Transportation Services

JeffSTAT personnel provide care in accordance with a pre-determined set of treatment protocols and standards of care. The attending physicians in the Emergency Department and Division of Acute Care Surgery provide medical direction for the program.

Through a partnership with Air Methods, Inc., the largest provider of air medical transport services in the world, JeffSTAT provides helicopter transport services to high acuity patients in need of rapid transportation for quantinary care. JeffSTAT uses IFR, twin-engine, EC135 helicopters, capable of accommodating two patients and flying at speeds of to 150 mph. The helicopters respond rapidly to interfacility and scene transport requests in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The helicopters are dispatched and tracked by LifeCom, a remote communications center in Omaha, Nebraska.

The helipad at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital is directly above the Emergency Department, and patients are transported by dedicated elevator from the helipad to the Trauma Resuscitation Area.
