Alternate Pathway for International Medical Graduates

SKMC Department of Radiology offers a range of ACGME-approved fellowships designed to provide comprehensive training and professional development in various radiology subspecialties. These fellowships are recognized for their rigorous standards and exceptional educational opportunities.

The American Board of Radiology (ABR) Alternate Pathway in the Department of Radiology is a specialized 4-year program designed for international medical graduates to assist radiology board certification. This program collaborates with the American Board of Radiology (ABR) to offer comprehensive training through year-long fellowships in various radiology divisions such as abdominal imaging, neuroradiology, and musculoskeletal. Participants must meet clinical competence and professionalism standards, and upon completion, they become eligible to take the ABR Certifying Exam.

At Jefferson Health, the Alternate Pathway can be pursued in the following subspecialties:

* non-ACGME Accredited training
** up to twelve months of research conducted within our department may also count toward the four-year requirement.

After a candidate has been at Department of Radiology for one year in the Alternate Pathway program/Fellowship they are eligible to become a faculty member.   Requirements to practice as a radiologist in the United States vary by state. In Pennsylvania, applicants must complete at least one year of ACGME-accredited training to be eligible for an unrestricted medical license. We will make every effort to provide two ACGME-accredited fellowship opportunities within the four-year track; however, due to the competitive nature of our programs, only one may be available.
